Junior squads:
SNAPPERS:
This is our entry level group for our youngest swimmers,
usually 9-10 years of age. We require swimmers to have
the basic mechanics of freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke.
Much of the session consists of stroke development and
swimming drills. The emphasis is mainly on techniques
for learning competency in the four competitive strokes
at a basic level. The session will also include some
continuous swimming to increase fitness levels. Swimmers
will usually complete upwards of one kilometre during
the session.
DOLPHINS:
Children who have mastered the basic swimming skills
and have advanced beyond the SNAPPERS will move into
this group. The
sessions are balanced between stroke technique, drills and fitness
training. Children learn to use the pace clock and gain competency
in applying stroke skills during a workout. Some of the details of
competitive swimming skills such as streamlining, breathing patterns
and tumble turns are learned here. In most sessions the swimmers
complete 1.2-1.6 kilometres.
MARLINS:
In the MARLINS, kids up to around 14 years learn to adjust
to a more rigorous workout program. They are expected to take training
more seriously and apply themselves accordingly. The focus of the
group is in learning more complex workout structures and functioning
as a team. Members of the MARLINS need to show a commitment to the
program and demonstrate maturity towards others in the group. During
the course of the hour-long session they will be expected to always
demonstrate their best whether it be in swim technique, drills or
difficult sets of events. Distances range around the 2km mark.
FITNESS SQUAD:
Our Marlins and Dolphins squads now require regular
attendance to both scheduled sessions. If you are unable to meet
these requirements
we have created a Fitness squad (this is simply for fitness and not
technique development). This may suit those of you with other commitments,
training for water polo or simply keeping fit etc. If you are interested
in transferring into one of these sessions please
to email us.
ORCAS:
Our early risers squad. 14-17 year-olds. Workouts are
a minimum of 2 km, covering all strokes.

JUNIOR SQUAD SWIM TEST RESULTS
Term 2, as at 1 June 2010
Well done to all our Junior Squad swimmers who completed May's swim tests. A new experience for many and we are pleased with the overall results and a positive attitude shown by all. These tests are a consistent measure for the squads each term and give our swimmers and their parents a chance to assess progress.
The aim of these time trials is to gauge individual improvement in both technique and fitness and identify any further developmental areas needed within the strokes.
Again well done to all,
-

Weekend Buddy Swimming
Buddy swimming – ideal for friends or spouses of ‘card
carrying’ members, we offer a reduced rate of $75 per quarter, for uncoached
swimming on Friday evenings between 5-9pm (winter) and 6-9pm (summer), Saturday
and/or Sunday mornings (7-9am). Entry to the Navy pool at these times is on the
basis you are over 18 and swim with a ‘buddy’ who is already
a member and has been issued a Navy security pass.
Please remember that uncoached times are for Masters (ie members
with a Navy-issue photographic id card) and there must be at least two club members
in the pool at any time.
Junior members can swim in uncoached times only if accompanied by a master who
has a suitable first aid qualification –
to email us for more information. |
