The Devonport Swim Club is a small, community
swimming club located in the small seaside village of Devonport,
Auckland, New Zealand.

Marjo Thomas, Dawn Dooley, Bevan McKinnon, Brad Wallace and
Vince Dalby.
Our objective is to provide training sessions that are fun, encouraging our Junior
squads to be water safe, competitive in school swimming meets, and to get
a good workout.
Our Masters squads also enjoy a good workout, and some
social banter between sessions.
We train throughout the year in the Devonport Naval Base outdoor heated pool,
located at HMNZS Philomel, Queen's Parade, Devonport.
We have approximately 100 members, including 40 Masters swimmers.

The Club organises and hosts the annual Cheltenham Swim,
an open water event for Masters and Juniors held on Devonport's Cheltenham Beach
in March.
COACHES
Marjo
Thomas
Marjo Thomas has been coaching both Masters and Juniors at the Devonport
Swim Club for the past 3 years. She also runs Swim Technique sessions
for small groups through the club on Friday evenings at the navy
pool.
Marjo competes as a Masters swimmer having frequently medalled
in NZ events. Marjo also works as a physiotherapist with a special
interest in swimmers who have injuries.
Dawn
Dooley
Dawn moved to NZ in 2007 from a swimming background in the UK. She has worked
at Takapuna and Glenfield Aquatic Centres as a pre-school swim instructor. Dawn
has competed in many of the Ocean Swim Series, Taupo and Tauranga Half Ironman
events and the Rangitoto to St Heliers swim since living in NZ.
Dawn is passionate
about swimming and gets great satisfaction from helping people develop their
swimming skills. She now instructs our Juniors and Master sessions.
Bevan
McKinnon
Bevan previously worked at the Takapuna Aqautic Centre as a fitness instructor,
swim coach and pool lifeguard. Bevan has extensive experience in swim coaching
and teaching both adults and juniors, and now runs his own health and fitness
business, FITTER.
He is currently in serious training for triathlon and Ironman competitions and
is a past winner of the Taupo half-Ironman competition.
Brad Wallace
Vince
Dalby
Vince has been involved in the world of aquatics, on both sides, for as long
as he can remember. He started off swimming for his local school and since then
has participated in sponsored swims, worked as a swimming instructor for a public
school, coached a local swimming team and been actively involved in personal
survival techniques and life-guarding. Vince gets great pleasure from developing
the swimming ability of those he coaches and teaches.
He currently works at Takapuna
pool where he takes responsibility for the life guard training which involves
practical scenario based sessions. Vince also coaches a swimming team at the
Millennium an is pleased to join the Devonport team. Vince enjoys his life here
in New Zealand with all that it has to offer.
